WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Eight (Tuesday, Jan. 23rd)

WORCESTER  With another week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.


Adrianna Dowdy

Women’s Player of the Week: Adrianna Dowdy (Becker College | Jr. | East Haven, Conn.):  Dowdy demonstrated why she’s one of the best inside players in the NECC this past week, averaging 15 points and 15.3 rebounds per game over three games, while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor. Dowdy also averaged 2.3 assists. Dowdy led the way for the Hawks in their win against the Wildcats of Wheelock with a double-double including 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. Then in Saturday’s home victory over Elms, the junior recorded her eighth double-double of the season and her sixth in the last seven games as she scored 15 points with a game-high 19 rebounds, shooting five of nine from the floor.


Isabella Nerney

Women’s Rookie of the Week: Isabella Nerney (Nichols College | Fr. | Guilford, Conn.): Isabella Nerney averaged 12.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game across three games this week. Nerney had nine points, two rebounds, and an assist in a 76-70 setback at Eastern Nazarene. She followed that up with 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a 61-48 loss to Coast Guard. She wrapped up the week with 15 points, two rebounds, an assist, and two steals in a 62-43 defeat to Roger Williams. For the week she shot 36.4% (12-of-33) from the field, 40% (8-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 85.7% (6-of-7) from the free throw line.


Women’s Honor Roll: 

Ogechi Ezemma (Clark University | Jr. | Hope Valley, R.I.): Ezemma averaged 8.5 points per game last week, while combining for 16 rebounds in two contests – she pulled down a team and game-high 13 caroms in a 57-46 setback to MIT last Saturday. Against Smith, she connected on four of nine shots from the field for 12 points and sank four of five freebies. She also added three defensive rebounds, two assists and one block in the 71-48 setback to the Pioneers. A few days later against MIT, she tallied five points, one assist and one steal.

Angelina Marazzi (Fitchburg State | Soph. | Manchester, N.H.): Marazzi averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal per game in two contests for the Falcons. She notched 16 points, three boards, and one assist in an 82-53 setback to MCLA on Thursday before adding 21 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 74-63 setback to Worcester State on Saturday.

Allison Cerrato (Nichols College | Sr. | Rockland, Mass.): Allison Cerrato averaged 12.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and 1.3 steals per game in three games this week. Cerrato scored 20 points to go with eight rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 76-70 setback to Eastern Nazarene. She followed that up with 12 points, eight rebounds, an assist, and a steal in a 61-48 defeat to Coast Guard, and wrapped up the week with five points, nine rebounds, and two steals in a 62-43 loss to Roger Williams. For the week she shot 46.7% (14-of-30) from the field and 90% (9-of-10) from the free throw line.

Catherine Sweeney (Worcester State | Soph. | Lowell, Mass.): Sweeney was three assists shy of a triple-double, registering 16 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, and a steal in the Lancers’ 74-63 win over Fitchburg State last week. She shot 77.8% from the floor, making 7-of-9 shots.

Stasha Greenalch (WPI | Sr. | Newington, Conn.): Greenalch averaged 12 points, five assists, three rebounds and 1.5 steals in the Engineers 2-0 week.  The senior came off the bench to score seven points and hand out four assists at Wellesley. Greenalch then poured in 17 points on 58.3 percent shooting (7-of-12) to go with six helpers against Wheaton.
