D3 Hoops: NESCAC Unveils Men’s Basketball Tournament Pairings
By NoontimeSports.com (@NoontimeSports)
Following an exciting – and impressive – win over Middlebury College yesterday, the Amherst College men’s basketball team clinched the top spot in the 2018 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament, which officially tips-off next Saturday, February 17th with a quartet of quarterfinal contests.
The Mammoths, who concluded league play with a 7-3 ledger, will host eighth seed Bowdoin College. The Polar Bears, who concluded NESCAC play at 4-6, edged Bates College for the final spot, thanks to better record against the top four teams in this year’s tournament, along with a pair of victories over the Bobcats earlier this winter.
Williams College, the second seed, will host seventh seed Trinity College, while third seed Hamilton College will welcome sixth seed Tufts University to Clinton, New York. Both the Jumbos and Continentals met a week ago in Medford, Massachusetts with Hamilton claiming an important league win, which was followed up by an impressive win over fifth seed Middlebury College last Friday. The Panthers will head to Connecticut on Saturday to face fourth seed Wesleyan University.
Following next Saturday’s quarterfinal match-ups, the tournament will shift to the highest remaining seed, which will be the host for both the semifinals and finals (Feb. 24-25th).
