WACBA Honor Roll: Men’s Basketball Week 11 (Tuesday, Feb. 13th)

WORCESTER  With another week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

Men’s Player of the Week:
Samuel Durodola (Becker College | Sr. | Rosedale, N.Y.): Durodola averaged 22 points and 13.5 rebounds per game this past week in games against Southern Vermont and Newbury. In Becker’s 108-81 victory over the Nighthawks on Saturday, the senior matched a career-high with 35 points to go along with 16 rebounds, two blocks and two assists in a superb effort. After a slow start, Durodola scored 22 points on nine of ten shooting in the second half as the Hawks pulled away.

Men’s Rookie of the Week: Matthew Kelly (Assumption College | Fr. | North Potomac, Md.):
Kelly averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game while playing all 40 minutes of each game and shooting 52.0 overall with 10 made threes. He opened the week with 16 points, including 4-for-5 from downtown, with two rebounds and two assists as Assumption beat Saint Anselm 70-67. On Saturday, he scored 18 second-half points and finished the game with 26, including a three with nine seconds left to pull his team within two, as the team eventually fell 83-80. Kelly also had six assists and one steal in the contest.

Kathy Cushing, a Worcester State University grad, as well as the wife of Don Cushing (WSU ’66), the former Nichols Coach, sadly passed away.

Men’s Honor Roll

Mike Rapoza (Anna Maria | Soph. | Charlton, Mass.): Rapoza has been a double-double machine this season – he recently recorded his 20th double-double of the season last Saturday with 21 points and 13 rebounds in the AMCATs’ fourth-straight win over Rivier. The sophomore connected on eight of 10 shots from the field and went five of six from the line. Prior to his team’s win last Saturday, Rapoza registered his 19th double-double with 11 points and a game-high 19 rebounds in a 63-42 win over Suffolk.

John Pisacreta (Clark University | Sr. | Andover, Mass.): Pisacreta posted 47 points and eight rebounds to go along with five assists and seven steals in a 1-1 week for the Cougars. Pisacreta registered a game-high 27 points in an overtime setback at Emerson College before leading Clark to a 97-75 victory over Coast Guard with 20 points on senior day.

Nicholas Tracy (Fitchburg State | Jr. | Indianapolis, Ind.): Tracy averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Falcons. He netted 19 points, seven boards, three assists and three steals in a 79-75 setback to MCLA on Thursday before adding 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists in an 89-54 triumph over Worcester State on Saturday.

Marcos Echevarria (Nichols College | Jr. | Lynn, Mass.): Marcos Echevarria helped lead the Bison to a 2-0 mark last week by averaging 24.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Echevarria scored 20 points and grabbed a rebound with two assists, three steals, and a block in a 93-67 win at Salve Regina. He followed that up with 29 points, five rebounds, and three assists in a 73-61 win at Western New England. For the week, Echevarria shot 50% (18-of-36) from the field.
