WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week 11 (Tuesday, Feb. 13th)

WORCESTER  With another week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.


Mrgan ODonnellWomen’s Player of the Week: Morgan O’Donnell (Assumption College | Jr. | Easton, Mass.): O’Donnell did a bit of everything in a 1-1 week for Assumption, averaging 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 73.3 percent from the floor. The junior opened the week with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists in a tight loss to Saint Anselm. O’Donnell rebounded with a career-high 24 points, ten rebounds, three assists and two blocks in an 11-point win over Saint Michael’s.


MIKAELA MITCHELL ROW1205Women’s Rookie of the WeekMikaela Mitchell (Fitchburg State | Fr. | Millbury, Mass.): Mitchell averaged 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block per game in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. Netted 21 points, seven boards, one steal and one block in an 81-76 win over MCLA on Thursday before adding five points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in a 61-54 triumph against Worcester State on Saturday.

Kathy Cushing, a Worcester State University grad, as well as the wife of Don Cushing (WSU ’66), the former Nichols Coach, sadly passed away.


Women’s Honor Roll

Kristina Russo (Anna Maria College | Sr. | South Windsor, Conn.): Russo averaged 16.5 points and six rebounds in a pair of games last week, while tallying three assists, two steals and one block. She began the week with 19 points in a 79-57 setback to Johnson & Wales – she connected on seven of 23 shots from the field, including three of 11 attempts from beyond the arc. A few days later against Rivier, she tallied 14 points, while pulling down seven caroms.

Adrianna Dowdy (Becker College | Jr. | East Haven, Conn.): Dowdy had another strong week for the Hawks, averaging 13.7 points and 11.0 rebounds over three games. This performance included a 22-point outburst in Becker’s 50-38 victory over Lesley on Monday.

Ogechi Ezemma (Clark University | Jr. | Hope Valley, R.I.): Ezemma put up 30 points in a 1-1 week for the Cougars. She had 11 points to go along with nine rebounds in an overtime win over Springfield on Thursday. She posted 19 points, nine rebounds, and two steals in a setback to WPI on Saturday.

Michaela McTomney (Fitchburg State | Sr. | Bellingham, Mass.): McTomney averaged a double-double of 13 points and 11.5 rebounds as well as 2.5 assists, three steals and 0.5 blocks per game in a 2-0 week for the Green and Gold. She posted a double-double of 13 points and 17 boards to go along with four assists, two steals and a block in an 81-76 win over MCLA on Thursday before adding eight points, six boards, one assist and four steals in a 61-54 triumph against Worcester State on Saturday.

Kaitlyn Berkel (Worcester State | Jr. | Waterford, Conn.): Berkel averaged a double-double in the week for the Lancers.  The junior posted a 17 point, 10 rebound effort against regional power UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference action.  In MASCAC play, Berkel paced the Lancers with a 10 point, 13 rebound game against Fitchburg.

Madison Beck (WPI | Sr. | Syracuse, N.Y.): Beck averaged eight points and 5.5 rebounds, but more importantly recorded five blocks and four steals, in a 2-0 week for the Engineers. One of the steals preceded a pair of successful free throws to seal a key 52-43 triumph at Babson. The senior finished with 10 points against the Beavers before notching nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals at Clark.
