It was announced today – Wednesday, February 14th – that the Western New England men’s lacrosse team was picked to capture the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) crown, per the conference’s release.
The Golden Bears collected five of nine first-place votes, while Endicott College, which checked-in second overall, earned a quartet of first-place nods.
Both teams last met in the 2017 CCC title game with the Gulls defeating the Golden Bears, 12-9. Endicott then advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament, but fell to SUNY Cortland in the opening round.
University of New England, Roger Williams and Curry College rounded out the to five, checking-in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Nichols College, Salve Regina and Wentworth Institute of Technology each slid into the sixth, seventh and eighth positions, while Gordon College earned the final position, checking-in ninth overall.
WNE concluded its 2017 season 8-10 overall, including 7-1 in CCC play. The Golden Bears entered the conference tournament as the second seed and defeated UNE in the semifinals.
Nick Beauchamp and Jared Ward will be counted on to lead the Golden Bears this season, who begin their 2018 campaign on Tuesday, February 27 when they visit Keene State for a 4 p.m. face-off. Four days later, they will host Lasell College on Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m. before making the short trek to Amherst College the following Tuesday (March 6th) for 6 p.m. face-off.
