With the second week of the New England D3 football season in the books, it is time to unveil our Noontime Sports Players of the Week for offense, defense and special teams.

Each week, we will be choosing one player for each category – fans, coaches, players and athletic communication offices are welcome to nominate student-athletes for our weekly honor by sending an email to NoontimeSports@gmail.com following the conclusion of their team’s contest.

Patterson WEB2Offensive Player of the Week: Khalil Patterson (Western Conn. | Hartford, Conn.): Patterson paced the Colonials offense by rushing for a game-high 124 yards on 22 carries for two touchdowns as Western Connecticut scored its first win of the season against Dean College. Patterson, who averaged 5.6 yard per carry, put Western Connecticut on the board first with a two-yard plunge in the second quarter before adding a second rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Patterson was tabbed this week’s MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week. Chris Rice WEBDefensive Player of the Week: Chris Rice (Castleton University | Bethel, Conn.): Rice led the Spartans defense with 12 total tackles, including eight solo stops, two tackles for a loss of 12 yards and one sack for a loss of nine yards as Castleton University topped Fitchburg State on the road. Additionally, the second-year player recorded an 80-yard pick-six at the end of the third quarter, which helped Castleton push ahead for good. The 12.0 tackles is currently a season-best for Rice, who leads all ECFC defenders in tackles (23.0) and tackles per game (11.5) through two contests. (PHOTO COURTESY: CASTLETON UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS) 
DiCairano WEBSpecial Teamer of the Week: Nick DiCairano (Endicott College | Trumbull, Conn.): DiCairano tallied five points during his team’s first-ever Friday evening contest last week, including a 25-yard field goal in the opening session, which helped Endicott top Bridgewater State. The junior booted his first extra point at the end of the opening session before registering his second and final kick late in the third quarter. Tabbed this week’s CCC Special Teamer of the Week, DiCairano has connected on all three extra points and field goals this season through two contests. (PHOTO COURTESY: David Le ’10)
