After earning an impressive and exciting win last Saturday over Hobart, the Endicott College football team was selected as our first Noontime Sports Team of the Week.
The Gulls, who were one of four nominees in our weekly Noontime Sports Twitter Poll, collected the most votes (59 percent) to secure the initial weekly honor.
Springfield College placed second in the poll, while UMass Dartmouth and Western Connecticut finished third and fourth, respectively. 205 voters participated in this week’s initial Noontime Sports Team of the Week poll.
Endicott scored its first win in program history against Hobart, thanks to third quarter touchdown by Anthony Whiteley and a career-high 10 total tackles (six solo stops) by George Balian. Balian and the defense limited the Statesmen’s offense to just 313 yards of total offense, including 19 yards on the ground.
Additionally, John Kenney rushed for a career-high 128 yards on 25 carries, while rushing for one touchdown. Endicott’s Shea McManaway led all receivers with 120 yards on seven grabs (17.1 yards per reception).
Endicott also received a boost from its kicker Nick DiCairano, who connected on all five of his attempts, including a season-long 41-yard field goal.
The Gulls return to action on Saturday, September 29th when they visit Curry College for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
