WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Two (Nov. 20th)

WORCESTER – Another busy week of Worcester area basketball has been recorded, which means its time to unveil our second Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors, of the season.

WACBA Women’sPlayer of the Week: Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Jr. | Franklin, Mass.): Manis recorded a career-high 30 points to go with nine rebounds against Boston College last Thursday before returning home against Brown University on Sunday, November 18 with a 27-point, 16-rebound performance. Manis also recorded her 1,000th career point in the game against Brown, making her the second-fastest player and 34th overall to reach the milestone. She went 15-for-15 from the foul line in her two most recent games, for a .967 free-throw percentage in the short season.
|WACBA Women’s Rookie of the Week: Avery LaBarbera (Holy Cross | Fr. | Harrison, N.Y.): LaBarbera continued her impressive start to the 2018-19 season with a lights-out showing against Brown University this past Sunday. Against the Bears, she recorded a season-best 30 points and nine assists and five steals. Through three games thus far, she is averaging 17.7 points per game and has not missed a free throw, going 17-for-17 from the line.|
Women’s Basketball Honor Roll
Morgan O’Donnell (Assumption College |Sr. |Easton, Mass.): O’Donnell was dominant in a 1-1 week for the Hounds, averaging 25.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while playing 28 minutes per contest. She was instrumental in Assumption’s 83-81 overtime win over Merrimack College where she scored 39 points, grabbed eight rebounds and four assists. She scored only two points in the first half but dominated the second half and overtime scoring 37 points for a school-record 39 points overall. O’Donnell also added 12 points, two rebounds and three assists in a tough loss to Saint Anselm on Saturday.
Adrianna Dowdy (Becker College | Sr. | East Haven, Conn.): Dowdy averaged 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds over two games last week. First against University of New England on Monday, the senior team captain scored 15 points while pulling down eight boards and shooting 50 percent from the floor. Dowdy also tallied a block and an assist against the Nor’easters, as well. Then, at Anna Maria on Wednesday, Dowdy posted her third double-double in just four games this season, pulling down 12 boards with ten points, while tallying a game-high six assists and three steals. This impressive effort propelled the Hawks to a 53-45 victory.
Hannah Favaloro (Clark Univ.| Soph.| Douglas, Mass.): Favaloro posted a pair of double-doubles last week, beginning with 13 points and 14 rebounds in an 80-67 setback to Fitchburg State. She then recorded 17 points and 19 rebounds in a 65-54 victory at Nichols College on Saturday. Favaloro currently leads the Cougars in total points (58) and rebounds (47).
Angelina Marazzi (Fitchburg State | Jr. | Manchester, N.H.): Marazzi averaged 19.3 points, six assists, and 3.3 rebounds per contest in a 2-1 week for the Green and Gold. She posted a game-best 25 points, five assists, five rebounds and one steal in an 80-67 victory over Clark University on Wednesday, while netting 17 points, eight assists, one rebound and one block in a 68-55 setback to Wellesley College on Friday Concluded the week with 16 points, five assists, four boards one steal and one block in a 78-49 triumph over Mount Holyoke on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Berkel (Worcester State | Sr. | Waterford, Conn): Berkel reached double-figures three times last week, but started the three-game stretch with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds in her team’s win over Mount Holyoke before ending with 16 points against St. Joseph’s (Long Island).
Spencer Vinson (WPI | Jr. | Los Angeles, Calif.): Vinson narrowly missed averaging a double-double for the second consecutive week, this time with 11.0 points to go with nine rebounds in each game, en route to All-Tournament team honors at the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament at University of New England. After netting 14 points in a win versus Bridgewater State, the junior finished the weekend with eight against Connecticut College.
