WACBA Honor Roll: Men’s Basketball Week Three (Nov. 27th)

WORCESTER – Another busy week of college basketball in the Worcester area is in the books, which means its time to unveil our third Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

WACBA Men’s Rookie of the Week: Marcos Echevarria (Nichols College | Sr.| Lynn, Mass.): Echevarria averaged 24 points and shot 52 percent from the field as the Bison took down a pair of NESCAC opponents and remained perfect on the season (4-0) – their best start since the 1959-60 campaign. He dropped in 19 points to go with six boards and three steals against Wesleyan University on Tuesday before netting 23 of his game-high 29 points in the second half of Sunday’s win over Trinity College. Echevarria also averaged 39 minutes and shot 50 percent from behind the arc (11-of-21).
|WACBA Men’s Rookie of the Week: Cal Connelly (Assumption College | Fr. | Rochester, N.H.):Connelly had a strong week for the Hounds, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 47.6 percent overall and 58.3 percent from downtown. The first-year scored 16 points with four triples, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks in a tight loss at Georgian Court. Connelly followed it up with a career-high 17 points, including three triples and four rebounds in a 23-point win over NYIT.|
Men’s Basketball Honor Roll
Tyler Davern (Clark University | Soph. | Webster, Mass.): In an overtime setback to Anna Maria College last week, the second year forward netted a team-high 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting, while adding eight rebounds (four offensive caroms), three assists and one steal.
Will Watkins Jr. (Worcester State | Jr. | Southbridge, Mass.): Watkins Jr. was the Lancers’ leading scorer last week when Worcester State travel to WPI for a non-conference pre-Thanksgiving Day clash. The junior tallied 16 points, four rebounds, including a pair of offensive carroms, along with one assist and one steal.
Reid Walker (WPI | Soph. | Lithia, Fla.): Walker, the first-ever NEWMAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week, notched 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in Tuesday’s successful meeting with Worcester State. The sophomore also handed out three assists and recorded a block. On the season, Walker leads the Engineers in both scoring (13.8 points per game) and rebounding (7.8 rebounds), and second on the team in assists with 15.
