WACBA Honor Roll: Men’s Basketball Week Five (Dec. 11th)

WORCESTER – Another busy week of college basketball in the Worcester area is in the books, which means it is time to unveil our fifth Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

WACBA Men’s Player of the Week: Caleb Green (Holy Cross | Soph. | Londonderry, N.H.): Green averaged 16.5 points, 7.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. He began the week by recording 17 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals in an 82-78 victory at UMass Amherst. Additionally, he connected on six free throws in the final minutes to secure a four-point win against the Minutemen. Four days later against Rhode Island, the sophomore tallied 16 points, eight assists, three steals and two rebounds in a 79-63 loss. For the week, he connected on 12 of 12 free throws, while handing out 14 assists with just two turnovers.
|WACBA Men’s Rookie of the Week: Eddie Hassell (Worcester State | Fr. | Milton, Mass.): Eddie Hassell had another strong week for the Lancers coming off the bench. The four-time reigning MASCAC Rookie of the Week, Hassell averaged six points and four rebounds per game in two games this week. His strongest performance came against Salve Regina on Saturday, when he scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 19 minutes.|
Men’s Basketball Honor Roll
Matthew Kelley (Assumption College | Soph. | North Potomac, Md.): Kelly scored a game-high 15 points while shooting 7-for-13 from the floor in a loss to Stonehill College. The sophomore added four rebounds and two assists in the game, as well.
Dewayne Thomas (Becker College | Sr. | Lowell, Mass.): Thomas averaged 17.5 points per game this past week, on 53.6 percent shooting. The senior also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game. At press time, Thomas ranks fifth in the NECC in blocked shots at 1.4 per game.
Brendan Kittredge (Clark University | Jr. | Clinton, Mass.): Kittredge posted a team-high 17 points in Clark’s 75-64 victory last week over Framingham State. He also added two assists, five rebounds, and two steals in the win, too.
Tyler Dion (Worcester State | Jr. | Barre, Mass.): The junior guard averaged 17.5 points and three rebounds in a pair of games last week for the Lancers. He began the week netting 13 points, while tallying five assists, three rebounds and one steal in a one-point loss to Skidmore College before posting 22 points, five assists, three caroms and one swipe in another one-point loss to Salve Regina.
Reid Walker (WPI | Soph. | Lithia, Fla.): Walker averaged 17.5 points and totaled eight steals, six assists and three blocks as the Engineers went 2-0 last week. The sophomore led the Crimson and gray with 13 points at Framingham State and 22 points at Salem State.
