WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Five (Dec. 11th)

WORCESTER  Another busy week of Worcester area basketball has been recorded, which means it is time to unveil our fifth Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

WACBA Women’sPlayer of the Week: Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Jr. | Franklin, Mass.): Manis registered a pair of double-doubles – her seventh and eighth of the season – in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. She led Holy Cross to an overtime victory over Hofstra University last Wednesday, posting 26 points, 18 rebounds and two blocks, including the go-ahead basket in overtime. She additionally had a 22-point, 10-rebound performance against the University of New Hampshire on Sunday to lead the Crusaders in both categories. She is tied for the Division 1 lead with eight double-doubles this year.

LaBarbera WACBA WEB NS WACBA Women’s Rookie of the Week: Avery LaBarbera (Holy Cross | Fr. | Harrison, N.Y.): LaBarbera was a factor all over the floor last week in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. In an overtime win against Hofstra University last Wednesday, she posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds to become one of three Holy Cross players to post a double-doubles in that particular outing. Against the University of New Hampshire on Sunday, she recorded six points and four assists.

Women’s Basketball Honor Roll

Jordan Hawkins (Assumption | Sr. | Glen Burnie, Md.): Hawkins was an influential player in Assumption’s 55-49 victory over No. 19 Stonehill College last week. Hawkins recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds, including six offensive boards, in her first career double-double, while also earning one block and one steal in her 34 minutes of play. Hawkins shot 55.6 percent from the floor and scored five points of the team’s last nine points with one steal in the final 3:00 of the game to help Assumption hold off the Skyhawks.

Ciara McKissick (Becker College | Sr. | Charlton, Mass.): McKissick had a great all-around week for the Hawks, averaging 17.5 points per game on 68.4 percent shooting with 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. The senior captain scored 20 points to lead Becker to a 62-56 win at Newbury on Friday night in a rematch of last season’s NECC Finals.

Catherine Coppinger (Fitchburg State | Jr. | Dorchester, Mass): Averaged a double-double of 16 points and 17.5 rebounds per contest as well as 1.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in two contests for the Falcons last week. She poosted a double-double of 22 points and 19 boards to go along with one assist and three steals in a 74-71 setback to Suffolk University on Thursday before adding a double-double of ten points and 16 caroms as well as two assists and four steals in a 64-47 victory against Southern Vermont on Saturday.

Bailey Savage (WPI | Fr.| Charlton, Mass.): Savage averaged 14 points and 4.5 rebounds, and totaled four assists and two steals in the Engineers 1-1 week. After tying her career-high of 11 points at the half versus Clark, the freshman went on to share game-high honors with 15 on the day.

WACBA Milestone/Highlight: Cassidy Harrison (Becker College | Jr. | Foxborough, Mass.): Harrison became the seventh Hawk in the history of the program to reach 1000 career points on Monday night in Becker’s at the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). Harrison led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting. She hit a three-point jumper with 2:17 to go in the game to give her 1,001 points for her career. Harrison becomes the first Hawk to make the list since former Becker great Haley Ooms did it on February 4th, 2014.
