WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Eight (Jan. 8th)

WORCESTER – With another week of Worcester basketball in the books, it’s now time to unveil our latest Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, which includes our women’s player and rookie of the week.

Women’s Player of the Week: Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Jr. | Franklin, Mass.): Manis had back-to-back double-doubles — her 10th and 11th of the year in 13 games — to open Patriot League play. Against Colgate on Thursday, she recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds; at Lafayette on Sunday, she recorded 12 points and 13 rebounds, including four offensive boards. She has recorded double-digit points in every contest this year
Women’s Rookie of the Week: Avery LaBarbera (Holy Cross | Fr. | Harrison, N.Y.): LaBarbera reached double figures in both contests this past week, recording 17 points, four rebounds and four assists against Colgate on Thursday before posting 10 points, six rebounds and three assists at Lafayette on Sunday. She has been in double figures nine times this year.
Kaitlyn Berkel (Worcester State | Sr. | Waterford, Conn.): Just days after netting 1,000th point in her team’s 60-56 win over UC Santa Cruz, Berkel posted 12 rebounds, four points, two blocks, one steal and one assist in her team’s 54-44 win over Salem State.
Caitlin Boermeester (WPI | So. | Billerica, Mass.): The sophomore notched a game and career-best five steals to go with six points on 3-4 shooting inside the arc, two assists and two rebounds in Saturday’s 49-26 win over Mount Holyoke. The team leader with 1.3 swipes per game played a game-high 33 minutes, the most for an Engineer since her 37 minutes versus UMass Boston during the WPI Holiday Tournament.
Brianna Capacchione (Assumption | So. | Washington Township, N.J. ): Capacchione came up clutch for the Hounds last weekend in helping them taking down AIC 75-65. The junior scored a team-high 16 points, with six rebounds, four assists and one block in a complete performance.
Sierra Johnson (Anna Maria| Jr. | Brockton, Mass.): Against Northern Vermont-Johnson this past weekend, Johnson netted 20 points on 10 of 20 shooting, while adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Johnson has netted 20 points or more four times this season.
Ciara McKissick (Becker College | Sr. | Charlton, Mass.): McKissick continued to fill up the stat line with seven points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals against Regis on Saturday in a 49-37 loss. The Hawks will be back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a 5:30 p.m. game in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play.
