The Tufts University women’s basketball team secured the top spot in this week’s poll after handing Bowdoin College its first loss of the season yesterday in the 2019 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship.

Bowdoin, which held the top spot for a majority of the winter, slides to second overall, while Amherst College dropped one spot to the third position.

Eastern Connecticut was our biggest mover, leaping six spots to the fourth position after capturing the 2019 Little East Conference (LEC) championship last Saturday in overtime against UMass Dartmouth. The win secures the Warriors a spot in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, which begins Friday, March 1st.

MIT was not ranked last week – they were on the rise – but this week they secured the fifth spot after scoring three big wins last week, including a semifinal win over Babson College, which was followed by a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship victory over Springfield College. The win provides the Engineers with a second-straight appearance in the national postseason.

Saint Joseph’s (Maine) and Emmanuel College secured the sixth and seventh positions, respectively, while Babson, Smith College, and Middlebury College rounded out the 10-team poll, checking-in eight, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

Finally, keep an eye on Western New England, which is one of our teams on the rise after capturing the program’s first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) crown last Saturday.
