WACBA Women’s Basketball Honor Roll (Tuesday, January 14th, 2020)

Another week of college basketball in the Worcester area is in the books, which means it is time to unveil our sixth Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Honor Roll for the 2019-20 season.

Noontime Sports is proud to sponsor with WACBA for the seventh consecutive season to host the weekly honor roll, which will be seen every Tuesday throughout the current college basketball season. Each week, we will select a player and rookie of the week, as well as highlight various milestones, too.

Women’s Player of the Week: Emma Thomson (Fitchburg State | Sr. | York, Maine): Thomson averaged 20 points, six boards and one assist in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. She posted 20 points, six rebounds, and two assists in a 70-54 triumph over Pine Manor on Wednesday before adding 20 points, six boards and one steal in a 67-56 victory against Salem State on Saturday.

Women’s Rookie of the Week: Erin Gallella (Worcester State | Fr. | Tewksbury, Mass.): Gallella averaged 8.5 points per game in a pair of contests for Worcester State last week. In the Lancers’ win over Saint Joseph’s (Me.) last Tuesday, Gallella recorded eight points with five assists and two rebounds before recording nine points, two rebounds, and one assist in a victory over Anna Maria on Thursday.

Women’s Basketball Milestone: Cherise Galasso (WPI): With a 64-58 win last Tuesday against Williams, WPI coach Cherise Galasso earned her 350th win on the sidelines, including her 315th with the Engineers. Prior to arriving at the Worcester campus, Gallaso won 35 contests during a three-year stint at Regis in Weston, Massachusetts. Two days after their exciting win over the Ephs, WPI provided Galasso with her 351st win with a 70-40 victory against Western New England.

Women’s WACBA Honor Roll | Tuesday, January 14th, 2020

Amber Wilson (Anna Maria College | Sr. | New York, N.Y.): Wilson poured in a career and game-high 36 points on 10 of 22 shooting against Worcester State last Thursday. Wilson, who is averaging 20.5 points per game, concluded the non-conference tilt with 14 made freebies (out of 17 attempts), five rebounds (four defensive caroms), and five blocks. 

Brianna Capacchione (Assumption College | Sr. | Washington Township, N.J.): Capacchione averaged 14.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this past week while shooting 34.5 percent from the floor and 100.0 percent from the free-throw line. Against Saint Anselm, Capacchione put up 20 points with five rebounds, one assist, and one block to keep Assumption in the game.

Cassidy Harrison (Becker College | Sr. | Foxborough, Mass.): Harrison continued to lead the Hawks this past week, averaging 20.5 points and 4.5 steals per game over two games. The senior guard poured in 23 points on Tuesday in Becker’s setback at Mitchell before adding 18 at Eastern Nazarene on Saturday.

Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Sr. | Franklin, Mass.): In a pair of games for the Crusaders this past week, Manis kicked off the week with a 25-point, 12-rebound, two-steal showing against Lafayette on Wednesday; with 8.6 seconds left, she hit the game-tying layup, was fouled and hit the go-ahead free throw in a 57-56 win over the Leopards. Against Bucknell, she added in a 15-point, five-rebound performance.

Gigi LeMay (Worcester State | Jr. | Grafton, Mass.): LeMay had a breakout week for the Lancers, leading her team to pair of wins off the bench. The junior guard opened the week with a career-high 26 points in a win over Saint Joseph’s (Me.), which included eight rebounds and four steals, before scoring 11 points with eight boards, four assists, and four steals in a win over Anna Maria on Thursday.

Alana Keating (WPI | Sr.| Leominster, Mass.): Keating netted 10 of her game-high 17 points during a game-opening 18-0 run as host WPI defeated Western New England last  Thursday at Harrington Auditorium. The senior guard connected on all four attempts from beyond the arc en route to a career-best point total. She has now reached double digits in five straight games, which has coincided with a five-game winning streak for the Engineers, who improved to 10-4 overall with the victory over the Golden Bears.  Earlier in the week, Keating tallied 10 points, including a trio of three-pointers as the Crimson and Gray knocked off undefeated Williams to deliver head coach Cherise Galasso her 350th career victory.
