Jake Burt, who played tight end for Boston College last fall, signed an unrestricted free agent contract this afternoon with the New England Patriots, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Lynnfield, Massachusetts native, who played high school football at nearby St. John’s Prep in Danvers, was named to the John Mackey Award Watch List prior to the start of the 2019 season. He recorded career-highs last fall in receptions (15) and receiving yards (212) while catching one touchdown in his team’s 45-13 win over Richmond.

Months after helping the Eagles beat Richmond, Burt registered a season-high four receptions for 66 yards in a 38-31 setback to Florida State.

Burt becomes the second tight end to sign an unrestricted free agent contract with the Patriots after Dan Hope announced last night that Ohio State‘s Rashod Berry will be competing for a roster spot with New England.

According to Patriots.com’s Mike Dussault, the “team has not yet confirmed these signings,” but have been keeping track of various reports from players, agents, and media members.

As of Sunday evening, the team has supposedly reportedly signed 16 undrafted rookies.
