Daily Noontime: Friday, January 29, 2021

By Matt Noonan

Happy Friday, everyone – we made it (insert crowd noise!).

It is VERY cold outside our home office in Boston so please be careful if you leave your home, apartment or condo. Maybe you should wear two hats and three pairs of mittens?

We’ll try to warm everyone up with a brand new Daily Noontime for Friday, January 29, 2021. And just for those keeping track at home, today is the final Friday of January – crazy, right?

As usual, be well, stay safe, hold the line, and have a great weekend, everyone!

It’s Football Friday, which means you probably should listen to today’s show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Anchor!

Friday’s Headlines (January 29, 2021)

  • GameStop‘s wild ride – or should we say wild week? – continues today with traders in London and Mumbai getting involved.

Last night, the CEO of Robinhood, Vlad Tenev, joined Chris Cuomo on CNN to provide some sort of clarity about what the heck is going on with GameStop and the markets.

According to CBS News, GameStop’s shares have surged after Robinhood eased “trading restrictions.”

This story is wild – seriously, there is a new plot twist every second, but you can bet more developments will occur (or be told?) over the weekend, so please stay tuned (and stand by!).
  • Sources are telling Front Office Sports (FOS) that Fox Sports is apparently interested in broadcasting National Hockey League (NHL) games again, which might mean the return of the “glowing puck.”
  • As we learned last night, the NCAA Selection Committee should provide college basketball fans with an update on teams “opting out” of their conference tournaments which could have an impact on the March Madness bracket.
  • Central Connecticut State University has elected to not play football this spring – the Northeast Conference (NEC) season is set to begin in a few weeks.

We’ll be back with more blogs later today (and this weekend), so make sure to stop by again soon!

Have a great day, everyone, and enjoy the flurries (like we did earlier this morning) in Boston.
