Mass. College Football: Worcester State’s Hippert Receives Nod On D3Football.com Team Of The Week

By NoontimeSports.com

Courtesy of the Worcester State University athletic department, here’s this afternoon’s release about junior Casey Hippert, who was selected to this week’s D3Football.com Team of the Week as a tight end:

Minneapolis, MN — For the second time this season, junior Casey Hippert (Douglas, MA) has been honored on the D3football.com Team of the Week as a tight end.

Hippert hauled in a career-best nine passes for 163 yards which included an 81 yard score in the first quarter to help lead the Lancers offensively as they fell to Western Connecticut 55-35 this past weekend.

His 81 yard strike is currently the longest receiving play in the MASCAC on the campaign and it is a distant second among New England to the 88 yard grab by freshman Grant Klimek (Toms River, NJ) of Nichols made on against West Conn on September 13.

Hippert is currently second in the conference with 844 yards receiving with an average of 120.6 yards per game while he is fourth in receptions (49). Both totals are currently seventh in the latest NCAA Division III rankings as he sits at the only tight-end in the nation in the top 50 in both categories.

With his solid game this past weekend against Western Connecticut, Hippert slides into seventh on Worcester State’s all-time list with 93 receptions and with 1,623 career receiving yards he is just 274 off of the top five.

Hippert also earned D3football.com laurels on September 18 when he caught a then career-best eight passes for 183 yards which included a key reception on third down to help the Lancers set-up the game-winning touchdown in their 15-14 win over WPI.

Worcester State (3-4) makes the trek up to Plymouth State this Saturday for a 1 PM meeting on the road. It marks the first meeting against the Panthers since the 1988 NEFC Championship game.

As noted by our friends from the WPI athletic department — senior defensive end Joe Everett earned a few awards this past week for his monstrous performance on the gridiron against Worcester State.

Everett, who was mentioned on our Weekly Honor Roll this past Monday, was named the Liberty League’s Defensive Player of the Week, as well as a member of the D3Football.com team of the week, too.

We’ve provided the press release below, but for more information on WPI’s football team — CLICK HERE.

Worcester, MA — After his performance on the gridiron on Saturday, WPI senior football player Joe Everett (Columbia, CT) has been honored by several conference and organizations.  The senior took home Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors as well as being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week and to the Noontime Sports Mass. College Football Weekly Honor Roll.

Everett had a big day for WPI registering a game-best 13 tackles, including an eye-popping seven for loss in the Engineers 28-21 loss to city rival Worcester State. His seven stops included a sack and totaled 26 yards in all. The senior, who had 10 solo and three assisted tackles, also forced a fumble.

No stranger to awards, Everett was named a first team Capital One-CoSIDA Academic All-District I selection as a junior in 2011.

WPI is 1-1 on the season and head to Norwich on Saturday at 2pm to face the Cadets.  It will be the 62nd all-time meeting between the two squads but the first in nearly a decade.

By NoontimeSports.com

D3Football.com recently released their first and second pre-season All-American teams, and only one senior from a Massachusetts college earned a spot on the list.

Western New England College senior Mike Graham, who is a return specialist, was tabbed as a first team member. Graham was the only member selected from the New England Football Conference (NEFC). He also became the first Golden Bear in school history selected to this particular team, too.

Last season, Graham totaled 830 all-purpose yards and recorded six touchdowns in 12 games.

The senior was also selected to the 2012 BSN Division III Preseason All-America First Team as a kickoff return specialist.
