WORCESTER – A busy few weeks of college basketball in the Worcester area is in the books, which means it is time to unveil our seventh Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll for Tuesday, January 1st, 2019.

Men’s Co-Player of the Week: Marcos Echevarria (Nichols College | Sr. | Lynn, Mass.): Echevarria averaged 29 points at the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic this past weekend at Springfield College. He dropped in a game-high 30 points in a win over Eastern Connecticut State Saturday before scoring 28 in a loss to No. 22 Salisbury University on Sunday. In the process, he became the college’s all-time leading scorer with his 2,107th point in the first half against Salisbury. Echevarria also averaged four rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two steals while shooting 54 percent from the field – including 46 percent from downtown.
Men’s Co-Player of the Week: Jacob Grandison (Holy Cross | Soph. | Oakland, Calif.): Grandison averaged 18 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists in a trio of games late last month. He recorded 15 points and seven rebounds in a 65-63 win of Canisius on Thursday, December 22 before tallying 14 points and seven caroms in a 60-57 victory over Siena two days later. He then led the Crusaders with a career-high 25 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists in a 78-71 win over Iona on Sunday, December 30. In all three games, he made 50.0 percent of field goals, 46.7 percent of his three-pointrs and 81.8 percent of his free throws.
Men’s Basketball Honor Roll
Brendan Kittredge (Clark University | Jr. | Clinton, Mass.): In a pair of Clark Basketball Holiday Classic Tournament games, Kittredge averaged 12.5 points, four rebounds, two assists and 1.5 steals. Against Curry College on the opening day of the tournament, the Clinton native came close to posting a double-double with 18 points and seven rebounds, while adding three assists, one swipe and one block. One day later against Wentworth Institute of Technology, Kittredge registered seven points, two steals and one rebound. For his effort in both contests, Kittredge was named two day, four-team tournament team.
Shaun McCarthy (Worcester State | Jr. | Oxford, Mass.): McCarthy was instrumental in helping the Lancers score a pair of wins over Curry College and Wentworth Institute of Technology this past weekend – both contests were a part of the Clark University Holiday Tournament. In his team’s 72-67 win over the Leopards, McCarthy netted 12 points on 34 of 8 shooting, while also adding six rebounds (five defensive caroms) and two assists. Against Curry on Sunday, McCarthy scored a season-high 30 points on 10 of 13 shooting, while connecting on 10 of 12 freebies. He also recorded six rebounds (four offensive) and two assists against the Colonels, too.
Mike Rapoza (Anna Maria | Jr. | Charlton, Mass.): In a pair of non-conference tilts this past weekend, the Charlton native averaged 17.5 points and 15.0 rebounds. Against Vassar College last Saturday, Rapoza poured in 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting, while adding 11 rebounds (10 defensive) in a 78-69 setback. Against Fredonia one day later, the junior forward registered a season-high 19 rebounds, including 15 defensive caroms, along with 15 points, which helped the AMCATs score an exciting 74-62 win.
Reid Walker (WPI | Jr. | Lithia, Fla.): Walker averaged 18.5 points and six rebounds, and was named to the Tampa Bay Shootout All-Tournament team this past week. After narrowly missing a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds versus Maryville (TN), Walker scored a game-high 22 against host DePauw (IN).
