SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Junior Ryon Lynch (Frederick, Md.) netted a pair of goals and two assists to lead Springfield to a 15-4 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.
The host Pride (5-7, 3-0 Pilgrim) scored all 10 goals in the opening half of play to take control of the contest, including a pair of man-up markers off the stick of sophomore Bryce Serriello, and after freshman C.J. Hanson (Melrose, Mass.) got the visiting Buccaneers (2-8, 0-3 Pilgrim) on the board 4:34 after intermission with a man-up marker, Springfield tallied four more scores, including Lynch’s second of the day, to ice its triumph.
Senior Jon Santer (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added a pair of tallies in the victory for Springfield, which also received two goals and an assist each from junior Matt Fleisher (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and freshman Brendan Boss (West Springfield, Mass.). Junior Kevin Freeman (Minisink, N.Y.) also netted two goals on the day for the Pride, who also received a marker and two assists from sophomore Kevin Sainte (Belmont, Mass.) as well as a tally and helper from freshman Tony LaGuerre (Shrub Oak, N.Y.). Junior Connor Nash (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) also scored in the win for the hosts, who also received assists from junior Devin Abad (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomores Jamey Conley (Waltham, Mass.) and Matt Dalton (Somers, N.Y.).
Hanson tallied twice in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received goals from freshmen Matthew Montuori (Framingham, Mass.) and Pat Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) as well as single assists off the sticks of sophomore Drew Prowse (Wakefield, Mass.) and freshman Anthony Kurylak (Rye, N.Y.). Junior Robert Maher (Katonah, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Springfield with four first half saves, while junior Kevin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) and freshman Kevin Ostrom (Barnstable, Mass.) combined for three second half stops for the hosts. Junior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) made 18 saves through the first three quarters of action for Massachusetts Maritime, which received four fourth quarter stops from freshman James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) as the Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 56-22 margin for the contest while holding a 19-3 advantage in face-offs on the day.
Massachusetts Maritime travels to Cobleskill, N.Y. on Monday afternoon to take on SUNY-Cobleskill in a non-league match that begins at 4:00 p.m., while Springfield travels to Worcester, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Clark in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League outing beginning at 7:00 p.m.
