WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Three (Nov. 27th)


WORCESTER  Another busy week of Worcester area basketball has been recorded, which means its time to unveil our third Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

WACBA Women’sPlayer of the Week: Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Jr. | Franklin, Mass.): Manis continued her impressive start to the season by posting back-to-back double-doubles for the Crusaders in a pair of wins last week. Against the University of Rhode Island, she had 17 points and 15 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. She followed that impressive showing a few days later with 16 points and 12 rebounds against the University at Albany. Manos has now posted four double-doubles in her first five games this year, along with a double-digit point total in all five contests, too.

LaBarbera WACBA WEB NS WACBA Women’s Rookie of the Week: Avery LaBarbera (Holy Cross | Fr. | Harrison, N.Y.): LaBarbera’s stellar rookie campaign continued as she guided the Crusaders to a 2-0 week. Against the University of Rhode Island, she recorded 12 points – all in the second half – and four assists to guide Holy Cross in a come-from-behind victory. Against the University at Albany on Sunday, she chipped in 11 points, including three 3-pointers, along with a career and season-best seven rebounds. LaBarbera has now recorded double-digits in four of five games this year.

Women’s Basketball Honor Roll

Morgan O’Donnell (Assumption College |Sr. |Easton, Mass.): O’Donnell averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 62.1% from the floor, 66.7% from three and 64.3% from the foul line last week. In Assumption’s close loss against eighth-ranked Bentley University, O’Donnell led the team with 32 points, her second 30-point performance this year, along with three rebounds and one assist. In the Hounds’ victory over Georgian Court, O’Donnell contributed 15 points, five assists, and six rebounds in just 18 minutes of action.

Hannah Favaloro (Clark Univ.| Soph.| Douglas, Mass.): In her team’s lone outing last week against Anna Maria College, the second year forward posted a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds, while adding four steals, one assist and one block.

Angelina Marazzi (Fitchburg State | Jr. | Manchester, N.H.): Marazzi netted a double-double of 25 points and ten rebounds to go along with two assists and five steals in a 67-63 setback to Curry College last Tuesday evening in the Falcons’ lone contest of the week.

Kate Surprenant (Worcester State | Sr. | Pelham, N.H.): Surprenant averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and three assists in a pair of wins last week for the Lancers. The New Hampshire native started the week 12 points, four rebounds and four assists in a 66-54 win over Western New England before netting a season-high 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting, including 2 of 4 from beyond the arc in a 55-36 win over Wellesley College. In addition to 17 points against the Blue, Surprenant also recorded three rebounds and three steals.

Spencer Vinson (WPI | Jr. | Los Angeles, Calif.): Vinson came off the bench to score 11 points and haul in a career-high 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s home win over Nichols College. The junior currently leads the 4-1 Crimson and Gray in scoring (11.8 points per game), rebounding (8.8 rebounds per game) and blocks (4), while checking-in second in steals (5).
