WORCESTER – With another week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
Men’s Player of the Week: Samuel Durodola (Becker College | Sr. | Rosedale, N.Y.): Durodola finished his regular season in dominant fashion, averaging 31 points, 12 rebounds and two steals per game on 53.3 percent shooting in crucial Becker victories against Dean and Mitchell. First at the Bulldogs last Wednesday, Durodola scored 21 of his 32 points in the second half, including two clutch free throws with 16 seconds left as the Hawks rallied for a 75-70 victory. Then at home against the Mariners, Durodola, who currently boasts 1,668 career points, became Becker’s all-time leading scorer for the NCAA era with a 30 point, 16 rebound performance as the Hawks claimed the number two seed in the upcoming NECC Championship Tournament.
Men’s Rookie of the Week: Matt Morrow (Nichols College | Fr. | Leicester, Mass.): Matt Morrow helped lead the Bison to a 2-0 week, averaging 11.0 points on 78.6% shooting, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Morrow scored 10 points to go with four rebounds and three assists in a 93-83 win over Eastern Nazarene. He wrapped up the week with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a block in an 81-72 win over Wentworth. For the week, Morrow only missed three shots (11-of-14).
Men’s Honor Roll
Jonathan Perez (Fitchburg State| Jr. | Lowell, Mass.): Perez averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, two assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. He registered a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists in a 77-76 win over Westfield State on Wednesday before adding a game-best 27 points, six boards, one assist, one steal and one block in an 89-76 triumph over Bridgewater State on Saturday.
Marcos Echevarria (Nichols College | Jr. | Lynn, Mass.): Marcos Echevarria helped lead the Bison to a pair of conference wins to end the season, averaging 24.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Echevarria scored 26 points, including 6-of-13 three-pointers, to go with four rebounds and four assists in a 93-83 win over Eastern Nazarene. He wrapped up the week with 22 points, including 14-of-15 free throws, four rebounds, two assists, and four steals in an 81-72 victory over Wentworth. For the week, Echevarria shot 40.7% (11-of-27) from the field, 38.1% (8-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 94.7% (18-of-19) from the free throw line.
Shaun McCarthy (Worcester State | Soph. | Oxford, Mass.): The sophomore forward averaged 28.5 points, shooting 63.5% (21-33) from the field, with eight rebounds and two assists in an 0-2 week for the Blue and Gold. He posted a career-high 34 points, going 13-for-23 from the field and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe with eight rebounds and an assist in the setback to Bridgewater State. He then put up 23 points and eight boards with three assists and a steal in the season finale against Westfield State.
