Mass. College Hoops: WACBA Players Of The Week (Week Two)

The second week of the college basketball season in Worcester is in the books. And with that being the case, here is this week’s WACBA Players of the Week.

Men’s Player of the Week: Kevin Donahue (Assumption College) – In his team’s two games this past week, the Connecticut native tallied 19 points per game, along with three rebounds and one assist per contest. He shot 52.2 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from beyond the arc. He sank 17 points in his team’s first game of the week against Southern Connecticut on the road before tallying 21 points at home against Pace University. Donahue drained seven three-pointers in his team’s win against Pace and was named to this week’s Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

Women’s Player of the Week: Alex Smith (Holy Cross) – For the second week in a row, Smith earned this honor after two impressive outings against the Crimson and Minutewomen. The junior from New Jersey scored a season-high 20 points in her team’s 63-59 victory against UMass, as well as dished out six assists. Smith tallied 14 points, four assists and three rebounds in her team’s loss to Harvard.

Mass. College Football: Friday Night Scoreboard


The eighth week of the college football season commenced on a rainy Friday evening with two games. Here are highlights from both contests.

MIT 20, Salve Regina 19: Trailing the Seahawks by five points with 1:20 remaining, the Engineers drove 33 yards on six plays to score the game-winning touchdown on a five-yard run by Justin Wallace. MIT’s offense produced 201 yards of rushing and 121 yards of passing, which helped them hand the number one team in New England their first loss of the season. Wallace finished the contest with 108 yards on 25 carries, while quarterbacks Peter Williams and John Wenzel combined for two touchdown passes.

Assumption 44, Southern Conn. 0: Quarterback Bobby Jordan scored two of his team’s three first quarter touchdowns en route to a blowout win in Connecticut. Uly Gibson led all rushers with 110 yards on 18 carries, while Mike Stuppiello finished the game with two sacks, three tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.
