Mass. College Lax: Thursday Roundup

Here are the scores and outcomes from this afternoon’s contests. Quick Note – there were no men’s contests today. 

Women’s Lacrosse

Boston College 13, USC 10: Moira Barry recorded a hat trick, while Brooke Blue and Mikaela Rix each netted two goals as the Eagles soared to their fifth win of the season.

Grand Valley State 13, Merrimack 3: Aubrie Stouffer registered two goals in the setback, while Kelly Metzger registered her first strike of the 2014 campaign.

Lasell 17, Curry 16 (2OT): Britney Wuorio‘s fourth goal of the contest — which came in the second overtime — secured the Lasers’ first victory of the season. Curry’s Haley Carey and Lasell’s Caitlyn Brecher led their respective squads with five goals apiece.

Gordon 15, Salem State 5: Anna Blomberg recorded a game-best five goals on eight shots as the Fighting Scots defeated the Vikings in their season-opener. Salem State’s Kelsey Russell registered a hat trick in the setback.

WNE 15, Bridgewater State 5: Taylor ScialdoneJessica Scannapieco and Shelby Trebbe each recorded hat tricks as the Golden Bears defeated the Bears and improved to 3-0. Bridgewater State’s Taylor Clancy recorded a hat trick in the setback.

Emerson 11, Salve Regina 4: Meredith Weber scored five goals, including her team’s final two tallies as the Lions defeated the Seahawks and improved to 2-0.

JWU 13, Regis 10: Grace Politis netted the Prides’ 10th goal with 4:17 remaining, but it didn’t spark a comeback for Regis. Politis netted a team-best five goals in the setback, while Sam Salamone recorded a hat trick.

Mass. College Football: Saturday Afternoon Roundup

Here are the scores and notes from this afternoon’s contests.

USC 35, Boston College 7 – Tyler Rouse rushed for the Eagles only score in the fourth quarter as the Maroon and Gold fell to the Trojans in Los Angles.

Anna Maria 55, Maine Maritime 49 – Robert Small rushed for four touchdowns and a game-high 240 yards, while Tony Valente recorded 13 tackles (10 solo) in the AMCATs first win of the season.

MIT 34, Becker College 0 – Peter Williams tossed two touchdowns, Justin Wallace rushed for 109 yards and one touchdown, Jake Laux recorded 12 tackles (10 solo) and one forced fumble as the Engineers defeated the Hawks in Leicester.

Plymouth State 37, Mount Ida 26 – The Panthers scored twice during the final seven minutes, which helped them defeat the Mustangs for the first time since 2011. Mount Ida’s Jawad Yatim tossed three touchdowns and completed 21-of-33 passes for 255 yards, while Jordan Hyman hauled in two touchdowns along with eight catches for 159 yards.

Bridgewater State 41, William Patterson 24 – Mike McCarthy tossed one touchdown and rushed for two more as the Bears earned their first win of the season. BSU’s Matthew Green caught seven passes for 164 yards and one touchdown.

Fitchburg State 20, Curry College 19 – Garrett Dellechiaie toss three touchdowns, including the game-winner as time expired to Phillip Saint-Juste (two touchdown receptions, seven catches for 151 yards) as the Falcons soared past the Colonels in Milton. Kevin Fruwirth tossed three touchdowns in his team’s second loss.

Rowan 29, Framingham State 19 – The Profs scored two touchdowns during the final seven minutes to earn a come-from-behind victory against the visiting Rams. Matthew Silva tossed two touchdowns and completed 15-of-20 passes for 149 yards.

* According to reports, University of Southern California could apparently block any NFL moves to have a team play at the Coliseum while a new stadium is being built in Los Angles.

* Well, apparently the Tennessee Titans are interested in making Chris Johnson the highest paid NFL running back, as long as he shows up to camp.

* The New York Yankees got some help from Robinson Cano on Thursday against the Los Angles of Anaheim Angels, as his home run put his team one game behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East standings.

* Steve Stricker fired a 63 at the PGA Tournament on Thursday, which apparently tied a tournament record.

* Justin Verlander led the Detroit Tigers past the Cleveland Indians on Thursday, as well as earned his 17th win of the season too.

* Denver Broncos head coach John Fox was quite pleased with quarterback Tim Tebow‘s performance on Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys.

* Any college student would probably like what BYU is telling Jimmer Fredette, don’t attend class.

* In the end, Barry Bonds was found guilty, but where do things go from here?
