The Tufts University men’s basketball team secured the top spot in the first NCAA D-III Northeast Regional Rankings this afternoon followed by Middlebury College (second) and Springfield College (third).

Tufts is one of seven teams on today’s list that has won 17 or more contests this season.  Additionally, the Jumbos are the top team in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) heading into the final weekend of the regular season for the league.

Colby College secured the fourth position – the Mules are 19-2 overall but have lost two of their last four outings. They entered the final month of the regular season with an 18-game winning streak but had it snapped on the initial day of February at Tufts.

Babson College checked-in fifth overall followed by WPI, which secured the sixth position. Both teams will meet this evening in Babson Park for an important New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. Babson won the initial meeting between the two teams last month.

Brandeis UniversitySt. Joseph’s (Conn.), and Amherst College secured the seventh, eighth, and ninth positions, while Endicott College and Albertus Magnus rounded out the rankings, checking-in tenth and eleventh, respectively.

Brandeis is currently in a three-way tie for first place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with Emory University and Washington University. Emory secured the top spot in the South rankings while WashU checked in second in the Central behind Wisconsin-Plattville.

Today’s Regional Rankings are the first of three sets – we will see two more over the next two weeks before the pairings for the upcoming NCAA D-III Tournament is announced on Monday, March 2nd.
